At present, most of our volunteers are schooling youths. Majority of them come from tertiary institutions.
Let's meet one of them who is currently volunteering at VDTL @ Nanyang - Darren Ng! This friendly bespectacled young man is presently pursuing his undergraduate studies at Nanyang Technological University (NTU).
Qn 1: What motivates you to volunteer with us?
“I have always wanted to give back to the society, and I happen to come across Byte.sg through my sister, Evelyn. I saw it as an opportunity to step out of my comfort zone and expose myself to a brand-new experience which is why I decided to go for it. Technology has become a necessity in our everyday life however not everyone has access to it. Here at Byte.sg, being able to empower youths to learn, create and innovate through the various technology platforms available makes this volunteer initiative a meaningful one to me.”
Qn 2: What are three words that would best describe your volunteering experience with Byte so far?
“Enriching, Educational, Refreshing – It’s my first volunteering experience and everything was an eye-opener. I got to meet people from all walks of life, and I enjoyed the company at VDTL @ Nanyang sessions. I’m happy to share my knowledge with the beneficiaries.”
Q3: How long did you volunteer with us?
“I have been volunteering with byte.sg since February 2022 and I have been participating actively ever since.”
Q4: Anything you would like to say to our new volunteers or anyone out there looking to make a difference through volunteering?
“If you are looking for an outlet to give back and contribute to the community or connect with like-minded passionate volunteers, look no further and come join the byte.sg family.
I believe you would gain a rewarding experience here and may even pick up new skills or strengths. To our new volunteers, first of all welcome to the byte.sg family! Volunteering should not be an unnerving experience for you, so do come with an open heart. Should you have any enquiries or require any form of assistance, do approach any of the experienced volunteers, and I am sure they will be more than happy to help you. As a Byte volunteer, you create a positive social impact in Singapore, making a real difference in the lives of disdvantaged Singaporeans. You are also contributing your time and current skillsets to help us improving our plans and operations. Oh yes, also not forgetting the fact that you also get to be a role model example to inspire our young beneficiaries; and knowing some new like-minded friends too!
